About Team DoD Turkey
Established in 1952, Team DoD Turkey is a joint command comprised of three directorates (Security Cooperation Directorate; Agreements and Operations Directorate; and Administration and Logistics Directorate) staffed by Army, Navy, and Air Force personnel.
Facilities within the boundaries of Team DoD Turkey include lodging, dining and entertainment, sports and fitness, educational, recreation areas, and a medical clinic. However, the majority of Team DoD Turkey is devoted to assisting the Turkish Armed Forces to modernize; increasing cooperative weapons systems research, development and acquisition; supporting U.S. Forces and activities in Turkey; and, as possible, assisting U.S. industries competing for sales of U.S. equipment. Team DoD also works to facilitate bi-lateral Turkish and American military operations on behalf of the U.S. European Command (EUCOM).
Team DoD-Turkey is comprised of the Office of Defense Cooperation-Turkey (ODC-Turkey), the Defense Attaché Office (DAO), the 717th Air Base Squadron and all of non-Chief of Mission DoD elements assigned to Ankara, contractors and dependents.
What to Do After an Arrest at Team DoD Turkey
If you have been arrested on suspicion of DUI, possession of a controlled substance, sexual assault, theft, or any other crime at Team DoD Turkey there are a number of steps you need to take immediately. Following an arrest, you should:- Exercise Your Article 31 Rights - The Right to Remain Silent. Once you have been arrested, you have the right to remain silent, and it is important that you do so. Army CID or Military Police will likely use a number of different tactics to try to get you to admit guilt, but you do not have to (and should not) say anything that could be used against you until you speak with an attorney.
- Exercise Your Right to Legal Representation. The one thing that you should say is that you want to talk to a lawyer. You have the right to legal representation, and having an attorney present during your interrogation will help ensure that you do not say anything or make any other mistakes that could jeopardize your defense.
- Avoid Speaking with Anyone About Your Case. In addition to exercising your right to remain silent with the Army CID or Military Police, you should also avoid speaking with anyone else about your case. Cellmates, friends, and even family members could become witnesses for the government, and it is imperative that you avoid giving prosecutors access – directly or indirectly – to anything that could be used against you.
