Benjamin Young is an experienced litigator with a proven record of success in military and federal courts as well as administrative actions.  He attended The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina as an ROTC cadet.  He graduated The Citadel with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science.  After graduation and commissioning in the United States Army, he received his J.D. at University of Georgia School of Law.  During his time in law school, he focused on criminal law.  He spent a year working for the Athens-Clarke County Public Defender’s office as a part of UGA Law’s Defense Clinic.  During that time, he regularly assisted the defense counsels by interacting with clients, investigating crime scenes, watching police body camera footage, and interviewing witnesses.

After that year, he worked for a year for the Barrow County’s District Attorney’s offense.  Benjamin regularly drafted charging documents at the District Attorney’s office, negotiated misdemeanor plea deals, and presented guilty pleas to the District Court judge.

Soon after passing the Georgia Bar, Benjamin began his active duty career in the JAG Corps.  Throughout his time in practice, he specialized in criminal law.  He was the only Trial Counsel at Redstone Arsenal, AL early in his career. He advised the Commanding General of U.S. Army Aviation on all criminal justice matters impacting the installation and the overall organization.  Additionally, he would field any criminal law questions from other tenant organizations, resulting in him advising a multitude of leaders, ranging from Captains to 3-star Generals.  Due to his efforts, during an Article 6 UCMJ visit to Redstone Arsenal, The Judge Advocate General presented Benjamin with his official Coin in recognition of Benjamin’s hard work.

At the same time, he served as a Special Assistant United States Attorney (SAUSA) for the Northern District of Alabama.  As a SAUSA, he handled all the hundreds of federal prosecutions at U.S. Magistrate Court, ranging from simple speeding tickets to D.U.I. and assault prosecutions, which arose from Redstone Arsenal.  During this time, he worked closely with several law enforcement bodies, including the Redstone Arsenal Police Department, NASA investigators, and the F.B.I.

He subsequently served as Trial Defense Counsel at Fort Stewart, handling court-martial cases, complex separation boards, and other administrative matters.  During this time, he represented Soldiers accused of crimes ranging from rape, sexual assault, child molestation, conspiracy, theft of government property, D.U.I., domestic violence, and more.  Frequently, these cases involved multiple alleged victims.  At Fort Stewart TDS, he had more contested trials than his colleagues.  During one two-week period in 2022, Benjamin represented three clients at three separate courts-martial.  All three clients were fully acquitted.

Benjamin believes that those who wear the uniform deserve every opportunity afforded under the U.S. Constitution and UCMJ regarding misconduct allegations.  He understands the difference experienced defense counsel can make in resolving each service member’s case.  He can be that experienced defense counsel for you or your loved one.
